Spill Management

Anadarko implements  best management practices, engineering design, mechanical integrity, product assessment and training to prevent spills and minimize impacts.

Ensuring Preparedness

Anadarko recognizes the best way to minimize spills or releases is to prevent them in the first place. If an event does occur, corporate and regional emergency response teams are prepared to respond. To ensure our preparedness, regional response plans identify critical staff, training and resources that are necessary to effectively respond. For example, in April 2017, nearly 150 Anadarko employees hosted and participated in the MEXUS joint-preparedness exercise alongside U.S. and Mexican government agencies.

Response & Containment

Central to its commitment to operate in a safe and environmentally sound manner, Anadarko
participates in several industry response and containment initiatives in the Gulf of Mexico, including:

Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC): An independent company with headquarters in Houston that provides well containment equipment and technology in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. MWCC’s mission is to be continuously ready to respond to a deepwater well-control incident in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. MWCC is committed to advancing its capabilities to keep pace with its members’ needs; membership is open to all oil and gas operators in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Clean Gulf Associates (CGA): A not-for-profit oil spill response cooperative solely created for the benefit of the Gulf of Mexico Exploration and Production (E&P) Industry. CGA provides the offshore E&P industry with state-of-the-art spill response equipment and highly-trained responders to ensure the protection of the Gulf of Mexico and its ecosystems. Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL): A not-for-profit industry cooperative of more than 160  member companies geared to respond effectively to oil spills worldwide. OSRL is typically engaged to respond to spills that are larger or more complex than member company resources alone can manage, and it has responded to more than 350 spills in the past 25 years. Services include technical advisory, provision of specialist personnel, equipment hire and maintenance and training. Learn more at www.oilspillresponse.com.

Wild Well Control (WWC): A private company that serves as Anadarko’s primary rapid response service provider.
